    What is Branding?

    There are many ways to define a brand, the most effective description being that a brand is a name or symbol commonly known to identify a company or its products and separate them from the competition. A well-known brand is one that people will recognize by a logo, symbol, design features, or a certain phrase. These are usually the business name or the name of a product, although it can also include the name of a feature or style of a product, or a catch phrase associated with the services you provide. Often, people who know a brand symbol do not know much about the company or its products and services, but the brand has made an impression on them, and they will be likely to choose the brand in the future. Branding places an image into the subconscious of a potential client that never leaves. It becomes a part of them. When a company brands people, it burns an image in their mind that stays with them for life.

    A good brand is easily recognizable and creates a sense of loyalty. Successful companies brand well and brand often. “Brand” name products sell for more money than generics as a rule, because people trust in what appears stable and well-defined. If you want your company to stand out, create a good brand and have it everywhere!

    The main object of branding is to make a potential client more likely to remember your business, no matter what you do or how large or small the business is. A strong brand name and logo/image helps to keep your company image in the mind of your potential customers. A brand helps to build customer loyalty across your business. A strong brand will project an image of a large and established business to your potential customers. People usually associate branding with larger businesses that have the money to spend on advertising and promotion, even if this is not necessarily a reality. If you can create effective branding, then it makes your business appear much bigger than it really is. An image of size and establishment can be especially important when a customer wants reassurance that you will still be around in a few years.

    A strong brand projects an image of quality in your business. Many people see the brand as a part of a product or service that helps to show its quality and value. If you show a person two identical products, only one of which is branded; they will almost always believe the branded item is of a higher quality, because people associate a label with a quality product.

    If you can create effective branding, then the image of quality in your business will usually go up. A strong brand creates an image of an established business that has been around for long enough to become well known. A branded business is more likely to be seen as experienced in their products or services, and will generally be seen as more reliable and trustworthy than an unbranded business. If your business is strongly branded, it will allow you to link together ranges of several different products. You can put your brand name on every product or service you sell, and customers for one product will be more likely to buy a different product from you as well as the one they already purchase.  This builds your credibility with the client and keeps them coming back. Soon, they’re bringing others, too, and the circle begins again, building your client base and making your business more and more visible to people who may never have heard of your brand without some kind of branding information.
